Situated in the northern U.S. and bordering, unsurprisingly, on Lakes Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior–collectively known as the Great Lakes–the region of the same name is home to diverse interests and opportunities. The Great Lakes region was initially noted for its substantial industrial contributions, as well as its educational breakthroughs. As such, today the region continues to offer a wide range of opportunities in higher education. The area, which includes such university powerhouse states as Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, has deeply American roots that show through to this day.
