Austin, TX (map)

The fifth-largest university in the nation, the University of Texas at Austin is consistently ranked as one of America’s top public institutions. Sports are huge here the football team has won four national championship but academics are just as big. UT Austin is known for its first-rate faculty and excellent graduate programs, and for having the largest endowment of any public university.

Admissions Information

Texas residents in the top 10% of their high school class are in luck. A Texas law gives these students automatic admission to any state university (although the number of "top ten percenters" is capped at 75% of the incoming class, which means students are not guaranteed the school of their choice). For the rest of the applicants to UT Austin, admission is more competitive: less than 50% are accepted.
