Hamilton Admissions Information

Hamilton College
Clinton, NY (map)

Named for the Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton College was officially chartered in 1812 as the third institution of higher education in New York State. Boasting a picturesque campus and a diverse student body, Hamilton focuses exclusively on its undergraduate students as it only offers a Bachelor’s degree. The school’s challenging curriculum emphasizes teaching students to write effectively, learn from each other, and think independently. Hamilton is committed to the intellectual and personal development of each student, accomplished through academic programs, faculty advising, and self-education.

Hamilton College challenges its students academically, while providing a multitude of academic and professional opportunities, such as study abroad. Of the college’s 170 full-time faculty members, 96% hold the highest degree in their field. In addition to highly qualified professors, at Hamilton nearly three-quarters of all classes have 19 or fewer students. Students regularly benefit from close relationships to faculty members, facilitated by small class sizes. Without any distribution requirements, Hamilton supports its students’ choice of courses, stressing the importance of interest in a subject. With plenty of shops just minutes away from campus, Hamilton stays connected to the region and has a well-developed community.
