Summer Support for Elementary Students

A Letter From Our CEO

Dear Parent -

I can relate. My wife and I have four kids under ten. We both work. Our kids have been home and out of school since mid-spring, and now the daily structure that school provided for our kids has ended. Remote learning presented challenges for both the kids and ourselvesand the prospect of the summer continuing in this fashion is daunting, and that's without looking at the bigger picture, which is equal parts scary and tragic.

If you're like us there was a period of shock and awe when it hit home that school was closing. Then there was a rally – "OK, we can do this. We'll set up a schedule for them each day and we'll keep things really structured." As the days and weeks went on, some were better than others. Emotionally it's hard. Logistically and just from a sheer workload perspective it's hard. And now we're facing the prospect of an entire summer at home, or with less outdoor activities and outlets than usual. If you're asking yourself how am I going to make this work, I think we can help provide some degree of normalcy and routine back into your family life. And in the process, we can help fill the academic gaps that emerged when schools shut down or tried to move online.

Here's what we're offering - it's easiest to describe it in the context of my fourth grade daughter: We've reached out to two of her closest friends from school, and they're working from home with one of our online tutors. They work with that tutor for either 2 or 3 hours per day, three days a week on core academic subjects: math, reading, and writing. The instructor works very hard to keep lessons fun and engaging, incorporating games, contests, and humorous writing prompts. The social aspect of doing this with her friends also helps a lot.

The catalyst for this is my own need as a working parent whose world is in disarray, combined with a unique capability at the company that I’ve been running for the last 20 years. We've worked with 40,000 students since 1999, and since we launched online tutoring a decade ago we've delivered 16,000 online programs using our custom developed online tutoring platform. That amounts to almost a half million hours of online instruction. We're a leader in this field, and we're uniquely positioned to help with a need that my family, and perhaps yours, has for this summer.

If you are interested in learning more, you can get in line by registering here. There is no commitment until a member of our staff has talked through the details and confirmed that you’re ready to move forward.

We're all in this together, and we're happy to help if we can. Hang in there, and let us know any and all thoughts or feedback that you have!

All the best,

Happy, Successful Students

Typically, students spend 50% of their waking hours at school or doing homework; something that occupies such a large amount of time inevitably plays a big role in their happiness. This year, everything is different - much of their spring has been spent at home, online learning can be a challenge, yet there is a need to stay focused and concern about falling behind. Staying engaged with and enthusiastic about learning become the main goals, along with access to a support system of educators and peers.

Ultimately, the end goal of a StudyPoint tutoring program is improved performance in school, and that improvement is usually easily measurable - an A on a quiz, an outstanding test, or a report card grade worthy of the refrigerator door. In these times, while some of that could still apply depending on your specific situation, the reality is success will also be measured in different ways: enthusiasm to regularly work with friends and/or classmates on current schoolwork, and the reassurance that with additional support, students can be better prepared for the upcoming school year.

In our one-to-one academic tutoring, our greatest reward is the positive feedback we get from parents who report their children are now confident and happy in school. In this case, our greatest reward is the knowledge that we can help alleviate the anxiety around academic progress in uncertain times.
