A Letter From Our CEO

Dear Parent -

I can relate. My wife and I have four kids under ten. We both work. We expected that our kids would be going back to traditional in-person school this fall, and now we know that likely will not be the case.

In our case we have had two main challenges. First, what our school was able to provide last spring was nowhere close to the pre-COVID level of education our children were receiving, and while we expect things to be much better this fall, we know there is a risk that our kids are getting off track. Second, the sheer volume of stuff that needed to be managed for virtual school was overwhelming with everything else on our plates. Every teacher for each of the kids was sending daily guidance and assignments. For multiple kids, each with multiple teachers, it was more than we could stay on top of.

Faced with these challenges, learning pods are a cost-effective way to ensure that your children are at or ahead of key learning benchmarks. In two thousand years nobody has come up with a more effective learning format for kids than tutoring, and we know that students are more engaged when they're working with a tutor with their friends.

Our learning pods offer small group online tutoring focused on ensuring that your child is flourishing regardless of the format of your school this fall. The tutor will work to fill learning gaps from last spring and will ensure that your child is mastering new concepts that his or her teacher introduces from week to week. In addition, for interested families the tutor can take on a support role with managing the daunting task of compiling and organizing all of the daily guidance from school.

The catalyst for this was my own need as a working parent whose world is in disarray, combined with a unique capability at the company that I’ve been running for the last 20 years. We've worked with 43,000 students since 1999, and since we launched online tutoring a decade ago we've delivered 16,000 online programs using our custom developed online tutoring platform. That amounts to more than a half million hours of online instruction. We're a leader in this field, and we're uniquely positioned to help with a need that my family, and perhaps yours, has this coming school year.

If a learning pod seems like a good fit for your needs, you can set up a time to talk by completing the short form at the bottom of this page. There is no commitment until you’re ready to move forward.

We're all in this together, and we're happy to help if we can. Hang in there, and let us know any and all thoughts or feedback that you have!

All the best,

You (and your family) are busy

You’re home and juggling work or childcare. Your kids are home and despite everyone's best efforts you know this school year is going to be challenging. On top of that, the rush to online learning last spring may have left your child with some learning gaps. We can help - whether you need more structure added to your day or a weekly supplemental lesson, our learning pods can be customized to meet your needs. Here’s a bit more about the structure and benefits:

  • Meet for 1 to 4 hours per day.
  • Meet from 1 to 5 days per week.
  • Work 1:1 starting at $60/hour or 3:1 starting at $20/hour per student.
  • Focus on Math, Reading, Writing, or all three.
  • You can set up a group with your child's classmates. For elementary school students, we can also set you up in a group with students in the same grade level.

Program Benefits:

  • Fill learning gaps from last spring or earlier.
  • Strengthen your child's understanding of new material this school year.
  • Get support with managing and organizing your child's work and assignments.
  • Reduce family tensions by getting an extra layer of accountability for your child.
  • Ensure that your child is at or above learning benchmarks for his or her grade level.

Happy, Successful Students

Typically, students spend 50% of their waking hours at school or doing homework, and something that occupies such a large amount of time inevitably plays a big role in their happiness. This year will be no different, it will just be more complicated and challenging to ensure that school is a positive outlet in your child's life.

Without question the tutoring aspect of learning pods will strengthen your child's academics. But an equally important benefit is giving your child a structured process for engaging with their friends in learning. With so many of our own kids working in pods last spring, we can say with confidence that these pods are fun. In part because the instructors work to make sure it is fun, and in part because the students are working with their friends and can crack jokes… and just be kids, together, even if it is online.

Ultimately, the end goal of a StudyPoint tutoring program is improved performance in school, and that improvement is usually easily measurable - an A on a quiz, an outstanding test, or a report card grade worthy of the refrigerator door. In these times, success will also be measured in different ways: in how a student looks forward to working with friends, in the ways in which working through this year with those friends build resilience and adaptability, and in how we are able to help families like yours reduce the stress and anxiety around school during the pandemic.
