How StudyPoint Began
StudyPoint's founders had a simple idea: to create a better alternative to impersonal learning centers.
With that goal in mind, co-founders Richard Enos and Gregory Zumas began StudyPoint (StudySmart, Inc.) in Boston in 1999. They focused on the needs of families who wanted a higher level of customer service and convenience, and on students who would benefit from individualized, one-to-one instruction.
Early on, the company invested heavily in curriculum development and training standards, so that its tutors could deliver consistent and reliable academic and test prep results to families. As the company grew it added additional services and programs, ranging from individualized needs assessments to online homework tools.
After establishing a strong base in Boston, the founders repeated their model for success in Washington DC, New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia. In 2006, the company added offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Over the next two years, StudyPoint opened new offices in eleven different locations: Atlanta, Dallas-Ft.Worth, Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Seattle. By the end of 2009, the company had expanded again to begin working with students in Austin and San Diego.
In 2011, StudyPoint was named to the INC 5,000 list of the fastest growing private companies in America for the fifth consecutive year. But the true measure of StudyPoint's success is its satisfied customers. Since inception, the company and its experienced tutors have helped over fifteen thousand students nationwide increase their confidence, while achieving higher grades and test scores.
