College-bound: Take SAT and ACT
3/26/07
USA TODAY's excellent article "All four-year U.S. colleges now accept ACT test" highlights a question asked by many parents whom we work with in our tutoring business (Cover story, Life, March 19).
Families simply want to know which admissions test — SAT or ACT — their children should take to increase their opportunity for college acceptance.
While our answer may be frustrating for some, we increasingly counsel students to take both. The tests are different, and students with different learning styles or subject knowledge often do much better on one than on the other.
Admittedly, the preparation and organization required to take both tests can be challenging. But with the right planning and strategy, students can successfully navigate the admissions test maze and end up at the college of their dreams.
