A Letter From Our CEO

Dear Parent -

I know what it's like to struggle with writing. My senior year of high school I actually had a member of the English Department say to me, "I can't believe you've been in our English classes for 4 years and still write this poorly." Needless to say, that was a bit of a low point for me.

It can be exceedingly difficult to draft coherent and persuasive prose that communicates a clear message to one's audience. Yet by the time I graduated from Cornell, writing had become one of my greatest strengths, and with every year that passes I grow increasingly appreciative of the writing instruction I received in college.

Investing in writing tutoring for your child will have both short and long term payoffs. With the exception of math class, strong writing impacts every single subject your child studies. Whether it's the humanities or the sciences, your child's writing skills directly impact his or her grades on papers, essay exams, and other assignments. I've personally tutored students who understood the underlying content, but were unable to communicate that understanding in papers and on exams because of poor writing skills. By improving your child's performance across multiple academic subjects, writing tutoring has a very real short and medium term impact.

Over the longer term, strong writing is essential to strong college applications, a successful college experience, future job applications, and even success within those future roles. In our society, individuals who can effectively communicate a point of view hold perhaps the most valuable of personal and professional skills.

It is my appreciation for and belief in the importance of strong writing skills that led us to begin offering writing tutoring. And the good news is that an expert writing tutor can begin to have a positive impact almost immediately. Writing is highly coachable, and private tutoring is the fastest way to make meaningful gains in writing skills.

If you think your son or daughter might benefit from stronger writing skills, please keep reading below to learn more about our unique approach to one-to-one tutoring.

Sincerely,

One-to-One, Private Writing Tutoring

Your Pace

In class the teacher needs to keep moving whether your child understands the concept or not. Your writing tutor will work at your child's pace and will review material until it's clear that he or she has mastered the concept.

Your Work

Our focus is your child's schoolwork, and a key responsibility of our tutors is to help your child prepare for and succeed on important papers and projects. This involves reviewing homework, discussing concepts, and completing practice writing exercises.

Your Success

Our goal is to help your child earn a stronger grade by being a better writer, but equally important, our writing tutoring will help your child take ownership for his or her learning and become a more successful, independent writer.

An Expert Team of Carefully Selected Writing Tutors

Writing Experts

Our experienced writing tutors have degrees (and often advanced degrees) from some of the country’s best colleges and universities.

Extensive Teaching/Tutoring Experience

They’re experienced, passionate teachers, and they know how to engage students and break down difficult concepts.

Thoughtful, Flexible Teaching Styles

Being smart isn't enough — our tutors are able to listen well and communicate clearly, and they adapt their approach to fit your child.

You (and your family) are busy

To be effective, an educational program has to work with your family's schedule. We make life easier by bringing the tutoring to you through two convenient options:

In-home writing tutoring

Our flagship program, which we launched in the late 1990's, our in-home tutoring option provides you with the unparalleled convenience and personalized attention of a private writing tutor who will work with your child right at your kitchen table. All lessons are one-to-one, and your instructor will ensure that each session is highly focused on your child’s unique needs.

Online writing Tutoring

Instead of meeting at the kitchen table your child and the tutor meet in a custom online learning environment. This innovative tool enables them to talk through strategies and complete practice essays, just as they would on a workbook at your kitchen table. Online writing tutoring replicates the in-person tutoring dynamic, and it’s remarkably effective.

Happy, Successful Students

Students spend 50% of their waking hours at school or doing homework, and something that occupies such a large amount of time inevitably plays a big role in their happiness. School is tough —  there are social, emotional, and academic challenges.

Ultimately, the end goal of a StudyPoint tutoring program is improved performance in school, and that improvement is easily measurable — an A on a quiz, an outstanding test, or a report card grade worthy of the refrigerator door. We believe the best measure of your child’s understanding and progress is the writing grade on his or her report card, and that is how we measure our success with clients.

Yet there is an added benefit — something that is difficult to measure but easy to recognize. It is the sense of accomplishment that comes from working to improve something and seeing positive results. Few smiles are as big as the ones that accompany a strong report card.

Our greatest reward is the positive feedback we get from parents who report their children are now confident and happy in school as a result of our writing tutoring.
