A major private research university that prides itself on top-notch academics, the University of Miami was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the #1 school in Florida. Almost half of its students are Hispanic, Asian American, or African American. The faculty is nearly as diverse, making the UM one of the most diverse private research schools in the country. UM is comprised of 12 different colleges, including a medical school, law school, and school of oceanography and atmospheric sciences.

The Miami Hurricanes are highly competitive in Division 1 athletics the football and baseball teams have won multiple national championships and many UM athletes go on to play professional sports.
