A Letter From Our CEO

Dear Parent –

If you've landed here, it's likely for one of two reasons: either you have a child who is struggling with reading and needs to catch up, or your child is a successful reader and you want to build an even stronger foundation.

You're right to be focused on your child's reading abilities. With every passing month new data emerges on the toll that the pandemic has taken on students' learning and development. Millions of kids' reading skills are behind where they should be, and the long-term ramifications of that are daunting. As the saying goes, "We learn to read and then we read to learn." A student who struggles with reading will struggle with most schoolwork, and the research indicates that the longer the delay in helping a struggling reader, the harder it becomes to fix the problem.

Building strong reading skills is the most important investment you can make in your child's education, up to and potentially including his or her college tuition. Nothing has a bigger long-term impact on student success than reading, and the more advanced a student's reading skills, the better he or she will do in most classes.

The good news is that reading instruction is a well-understood field, and the research is clear: of all the options available to students, one-to-one tutoring is the single best way to catch up or get ahead. Decades of intensive study have led to a formula for improving reading that is as simple as it is effective:

  • Work one-to-one with a tutor
  • Work intensively: 3-4 sessions per week for at least 4-5 months (this is called "high-dosage" tutoring)
  • Use a research-based curriculum that focuses on phonics and phonemic awareness

With this format, students can gain an entire grade level or more in as little as three to four months.

At StudyPoint we are data-driven in everything we do, including the educational outcomes of our programs. That's why we partnered with one of the leading reading curriculum providers in the country. The program we use is designed specifically for one-to-one tutoring, has been independently verified to work in 15 different studies conducted by schools and school systems, and has been approved by multiple state education departments for use in reading intervention programs. Combined with our one-to-one and high-dosage format, it's an approach that will set your child up for success.

So if you're thinking about getting your child reading support, please contact us. Our staff are passionate about helping students, and everything at StudyPoint starts with a free consultation.

Sincerely,

One-to-One, Private Reading Tutoring

Your Pace

In a reading class or small group the teacher needs to keep moving, whether or not your child understands the concept. In contrast, your StudyPoint reading tutor will work at your child's pace and will review material until it's clear that he or she has mastered the concept.

Your Needs

Our reading tutoring starts with an Assessment that drives the targeting of the program. We use that Assessment to identify your child's reading strengths and weaknesses, and in turn to customize the program to your child's needs.

Your Success

Our number one goal is to help your child build a strong academic foundation, but we also want to build the confidence that leads to a love of reading. As we all celebrate your child's progress, that enthusiasm for reading will grow and grow.

An Expert Team of Carefully Selected Reading Tutors

Expert Tutors

Our experienced tutors have degrees (and often advanced degrees) from some of the country’s best colleges and universities.

Extensive Teaching/Tutoring Experience

They’re experienced, passionate teachers, and they know how to engage students and break down difficult concepts.

Thoughtful, Flexible Teaching Styles

Being smart isn't enough—our tutors are able to listen well and communicate clearly, and they adapt their approach to fit your child.

You (and your family) are busy

To be effective, an educational program has to work with your family's schedule. We make life easier by bringing the tutoring to you through two convenient options:

In-home Reading tutoring

Our flagship program, which we launched in the late 1990's, our in-home tutoring option provides you with the unparalleled convenience and personalized attention of a private reading tutor who will work with your child right at your kitchen table. All lessons are one-to-one, and your instructor will ensure that each session is highly focused on your child’s unique needs.

Online Reading Tutoring

Instead of meeting at the kitchen table, your child and the tutor meet in an online learning environment custom-built for effective reading tutoring. This innovative tool enables them to review and practice phonics, phonemes, decoding, spelling, and other critical building blocks of strong reading. Online reading tutoring replicates the in-person tutoring dynamic, and it’s remarkably effective.

Happy, Successful Students

Students spend 50% of their waking hours at school or doing homework, and something that occupies such a large amount of time inevitably plays a big role in their happiness. School is tough – there are social, emotional, and academic challenges – and kids know when they are behind their peers.

Ultimately, the end goal of a StudyPoint reading program is to build your child's reading abilities — to make sure he or she is at, and hopefully above, grade level. Schools measure and track kids' reading levels throughout the year, and we believe those independent, school-administered tests are the best measure of our success with our clients.

Yet there is an added benefit—something that is difficult to measure but easy to recognize. It is the sense of accomplishment that comes from working to improve something and seeing positive results. Few smiles are as big as the one on a child's face when he or she finishes reading a book that was out of reach just a few months earlier.

Our greatest reward is the positive feedback we get from parents who report their children are now confident and happy in school as a result of our tutoring.
