A Letter From Our Co-Founder

Dear Parent –

Kudos to you for taking the initiative to research support options for your child's reading. As a father of four children spanning elementary school through high school, I know firsthand what it's like to worry about your child's progress. At one point or another, each of my children has worked with a StudyPoint tutor, and the peace of mind that came from knowing they were in good hands was invaluable. An experienced educator was helping them get caught up, build confidence, and eventually get ahead.

We built our reading tutoring program for families exactly like yours and mine.

For almost three decades, we’ve worked one-on-one with students in their homes, helping them build the skills - and the confidence - they need to succeed in school. Our approach to reading instruction is grounded in the Orton-Gillingham method and the science of reading, which means we don’t rely on guesswork or trends. We use a structured, proven approach that helps students truly understand how reading works.

But what really makes the difference is how we deliver it.

Every student is paired with a dedicated reading tutor who works with them one-to-one, in person, in your home. That means no distractions, no one-size-fits-all instruction, and no wasted time. Your child gets personalized attention, lessons tailored to their exact needs, and a pace that ensures real progress—not frustration.

For struggling readers, this means closing gaps, rebuilding confidence, and finally feeling successful with reading. For advanced students, it means strengthening foundational skills, improving fluency and comprehension, and getting ahead in a meaningful, lasting way.

Either way, the goal of our reading tutoring is the same: to help your child become a confident, capable reader who feels proud of their progress.

We know inviting a reading tutor into your home is a big decision. It’s not just about improving grades—it’s about investing in your child’s long-term success and self-confidence. That’s why we take the time to match your child with the right tutor and build a plan that works for your family.

If you’re ready to explore one-to-one, in-home reading tutoring, we’d love to help. Our staff are passionate about helping kids, and they love consulting with parents to find the best solution for each family's needs.

Sincerely,

One-to-One, Private Reading Tutoring

Your Pace

In a reading class or group the teacher needs to keep moving, whether or not your child understands the concept. In contrast, your StudyPoint reading tutor will work at your child's pace and will review material until it's clear that he or she has mastered the concept.

Your Needs

Our reading tutoring starts with a Science-of-Reading-based Assessment that drives the targeting of the program. We use that Assessment to identify your child's reading strengths and weaknesses, and in turn to customize the program to your child's needs.

Your Success

Our number one goal is to help your child build a strong academic foundation, but we also want to build the confidence that leads to a love of reading. As we all celebrate your child's progress, that enthusiasm for reading will grow and grow.

Thoughtful, Flexible Teaching Styles

Being smart isn't enough—our tutors are able to listen well and communicate clearly, and they adapt their approach to fit your child.

Flexible, research-based, and effective.

In home tutoring

Sometimes there is no substitute for in-person, face-to-face instruction. That's why we've structured our Reading Program as one-to-one, in-home tutoring. Young kids spend enough time on screens, and your schedule is likely already packed. We come to you, and we work face-to-face with your child right at the kitchen table.

ENGAGINg curriculum

To measurably improve students' reading skills requires curriculum-driven programming that utilizes research-based strategies for teaching reading fundamentals. Our reading tutoring is based on an Orton-Gillingham science of reading curriculum that is both effective and engaging.

Happy, Successful Students

Students spend 50% of their waking hours at school or doing homework, and something that occupies such a large amount of time inevitably plays a big role in their happiness. School is tough – there are social, emotional, and academic challenges – and kids know when they are behind their peers.

Ultimately, the end goal of a StudyPoint reading program is to build your child's reading abilities — to make sure he or she is at, and hopefully above, grade level. Schools measure and track kids' reading levels throughout the year, and we believe those independent, school-administered tests are the best measure of our success with our clients.

Yet there is an added benefit—something that is difficult to measure but easy to recognize. It is the sense of accomplishment that comes from working to improve something and seeing positive results. Few smiles are as big as the one on a child's face when he or she finishes reading a book that was out of reach just a few months earlier.

Our greatest reward is the positive feedback we get from parents who report their children are now confident and happy in school as a result of our tutoring.
